My Heroes.

FYC - My Heroes Image

If you are interested in sport whether as a spectator or a participant, or your grandchildren have a sporting passion you enjoy sharing with them – whatever you follow – these pages are for you!

We have formed an affiliation with My Heroes and we see this as a fantastic way for Grandparents to help encourage their grandchildren to keep interested and participate in sport as a healthy part of their lives, as well as creating a unique bond which is so special between children and their grandparents!

My Heroes is a revolutionary and unique Australian concept specialising in on-line personalised "hero products" which was launched in Melbourne in March 2007-2011, in conjunction with Swimming Australia Ltd to coincide with the 12th FINA World Championships.

My Heroes is a web-based concept which produces high quality, high value, personalised printed products connecting children (via their parents or grandparents) with their heroes in a bespoke format.

Jon Field, Managing Director of My Heroes believes that:

"Every child should have a hero and someone they look up to and we believe that through our unique concept and product offering we will motivate and inspire children to aim high and achieve great things. We are also hoping that with My Heroes® inimitable ability to connect and give confidence to children it will encourage them to want to participate in their chosen sport, and provide them with lasting enjoyment when they look at their personalised message and image from their hero."

The My Heroes product range includes, A3 & A4 personalised prints, personalised birthday cards, personalised special occasion cards and "life sized" growth charts.

With the Olympic Games being held this year, there is going to be so much for our young 'would be sporting heroes' to see and be motivated by, and this concept of My Heroes is going to bring so many of our greatest Australian Athletes into their homes to inspire them.

The 'My Heroes' e-newsletter (which is created quarterly) is a fabulous way to encourage your grandchildren to find out what is happening in the sporting world, and there are always little challenging quiz's and interesting facts to add to their sporting knowledge. Click here.

Our affiliation doesn't stop there though, because the next step for Jon Field and his team is Sports streaming. This is a medium enabling you to be able to view sporting events through your computer!

WE are very excited with this element, because you will not only be offered the ability to watch sporting events from around the world, but you are going to be given the option of watching all the 2nd tier sports that NEVER make it onto the screen through main stream media!

Keep watching this space for developments with online streaming.

Of course, before we start "STREAMING" we will be clearly explaining how to do this in our Computer Skills Pages click here to find out more about streaming.

Parents and Grandparents:
Help your kids to Live their Dream - with My Heroes!

It is clear that grandparents and parental involvement can make a big difference when it comes to encouraging their children to be more physically active and get involved in sports.

Here are some tips on how:

  • Enjoy physical activity yourself and become an active role model. A healthy fit grandparent truly is an inspiration for our young ones, and they'll love being able to play with you too. If you play in a Tennis Group – take them with you in the holidays, they'll have fun and so will your friends!
  • Organise family outings to include active pursuits, such as a bike ride or beach walk and swim. A picnic with all the family can be great fun and you might even have enough people to create 2 teams!
  • Make active choices where you can – take the stairs or walk your grandchild home from school – this is a great time for them to download on the day, and be more relaxed by the time they get home.
  • Set limits on television and computer games to say 30 minutes a day
  • Create environments where physical activity is possible encourage games in the back yard, perhaps creating a vegetable garden.
  • Involve your children in community sport and recreational activities - this also helps you to broaden your social networks and interests, and can give mum or dad a precious break from the daily grind!
